Studdard cemetery & a horror movie side quest in rutledge, ga

Just north of Rutledge, Ga you’ll find this family cemetery that has a blend of classic and handmade stones.

And the grave goods were plentiful. The weathered teddy bear has been leaning against this old marker for a good while…

How amazing are these vernacular false crypts? Many of them blended in with the drifts of old magnolia leaves so I had to be very careful during filming.

And if you’re here and you’re a fan of older scary movies then there’s a spot down the way you must visit!

I’ll 100% honest and I’m most certainly not trying to diminish this cemetery in any way because it’s a quiet spot with amazing funerary structures but I’m featuring this location today (Friday the 13th) due to its proximity to Hard Labor Creek State Park. Why this park in particular? The historic Camp Daniel Morgan, comprised of a sprawling number of tiny bunkhouses and some larger stonework buildings nestled against the shores of Lake Rutledge, was used in Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. And you can visit it and explore on your own! Just stop by the park office or call ahead and they usually have it open to the public but you have to use a key (and leave your i.d.)….

You can also rent the whole thing for special events. I’ve wanted to have a big ol’ camping party here with my friends since I first visited in 2021 but it still hasn’t happened. Maybe this year is the year. *fingers crossed*
