A very quick post about my current and ‘to read’ reads because I’m busy playing catch-up due to a long illness, creating a book club, a few presentations, and work work workworkwork. But since it’s the week of that aforementioned book club (Read In Peace Book Club to be exact – go here to follow the Insta!) I would be very remiss to not mention my books du jour. So, here they are!

Sister, Sinner. I haven’t delved into this yet but I keep sneaking peeks. The cover is wow and as a child who grew up with Evangelicalism shoved at them often (I saw snake handling, speaking in tongues and rolling on floors from a young age) there’s a part of me that is interested to see how it all began. [Note: I loved the first season of the Perry Mason reboot and Sister Alice’s character is heavily inspired by Aimee Semple McPherson. If you haven’t seen it then I recommend it.]

Clockwise: Found Maggie’s Grave at Wander North Georgia and if you haven’t seen their small-ish bookstore downstairs then you’re missing out. They have some great local books. / A few Images of America books – The Varsity & Buckhead specifically. Say what you will about these (and some folks say a lot) I think they’re great for when you want to learn about an area but don’t have the bandwidth for a detailed tome. Sometimes I just want to look at photos, you know? / Speaking of photos, New Orleans Cemeteries was a fun quick perusal. If you see it secondhand you should snap it up. / I haven’t started the History in Focus but it came recommended by someone at the grave cleaning class. I loved Marietta’s downtown area so I’m excited to explore more – both in real life and on pages. / Not a book but a little puzzle and a postcard that made me happy. Are you familiar with the Big Chicken?

I am a SUCKER for any pictorial style books about rivers and marshes and oceans. Especially with B&W photos. I found Mississippi Currents at an estate sale and got it for only $1! Found the feather the same day. Yay!

Book Curses was fine. I don’t know why I couldn’t really get into it (most of it was medieval and the language isn’t my jam) but the modern ones in the last few pages were fun. “Whoever folds the page down, the devil toast brown. Who makes a mark or a blot, the devil roast hot. Whoever steals this book, the devil will cook.” Having loved and lost many books over the years I understand this level of ire. / Finally, What Moves the Dead which is a reread for the book club! 10/10 recommend gothic horror. You can read about the 2nd in the series of 3 that are currently out (it’s called the Sworn Soldier Series btw) here. And if you’re in Athens then come by Hendershot’s May 20th at 5:30 p.m. for the meetup. I have no idea what I’m doing but I hope it’ll be a good time just vibing over books and the like.

Visit my Goodreads to see more what I’m reading. Fair warning: I’m a little loosey-goosey with my updating but I would still love to be reading friends on there if you’d like to add me. And always down with suggestions for new or new-to-me books…
